Courthouse Sidewalk
Updated: Sep 17, 2021

That's not a concrete sidewalk circling the courthouse and leading up to the entrance. Back then, the sidewalk was constructed from large slabs of limestone that were quarried in Joliet Illinois. There are a few of these slabs left downtown. There is a small walk way next to the former Montgomery News building in the South West Corner of the square. Five slabs from this era still exist. You can also see the original brick sidewalk peeking out under the concrete the city poured over them. They reused everything back then. There may be more of these limestone slabs around town in flower gardens, stepping stones and patios.
